There's a short list of things worth doing yourself before we get there, and a shorter list of things you should never touch.
Safe to check: the wall switch and remote batteries, whether the photo-eye sensors near the floor are aligned and clean, and whether anything's physically blocking the track. If the door won't close and reverses immediately, nine times out of ten it's a photo-eye issue, not a spring.
Not safe to touch: the torsion spring itself, under any circumstance. A wound torsion spring on a door built to 1966-era dimensions holds enough stored force to break a bone or worse if the winding cone slips. Same for cables under tension and anything bent at the bottom bracket - leave it alone and call it in as the emergency it is. If a panel's merely dented but the door still opens and closes smoothly, that's cosmetic and can wait; it doesn't need an emergency call, just a regular appointment.
